Let us give the children a vision of the universe

Culture

In our Montessori environment the diversity of different and vibrant cultures are explored and celebrated. Varied material and experiences are introduced to encourage our children to develop an understanding of the various cultures we come from.

Children have a natural desire and curiosity to explore the natural and social world. Our Geography material consists of a wide range of beautiful material such as puzzle maps, globes and land & water formations to help the child to gain an appreciation of the world we live in.

Children enrich their learning experiences of biology and zoology through a hands on approach on activities such as growing vegetables, composting, caring for our own chickens, cooking activities etc.

Music & Art and Drama is integrated into our daily classroom activities helping the child to express themselves. Children learn music through singing, listening & movement, our end of year celebrations gives the children an opportunity to showcase their learning journey. Every month we focus on a different artist giving the children the opportunity to experience different art techniques and styles.

Our Curriculum

What Is Montessori Culture?

The Montessori Culture curriculum incorporates many different subjects including geography, biology, botany, zoology, science, art and music.

Through sensory materials and play, children are encouraged to look beyond their immediate environment and explore the world around them, culture, and social responsibilities. There’s an emphasis on caring for the environment and children learn fundamental concepts such as cause and effect.

By introducing subjects like geography and zoology early on, children become naturally curious about where they live and how interconnected different subjects are. Through hands-on learning and specific Montessori educational materials designed for each developmental level, children can approach topics at their own pace and motivate themselves to learn.

Language

Beacon House Montessori provides the opportunity to expand your child’s knowledge of an addition language by offering a dynamic Italian program where children have the chance to learn from a native Italian educator.

Dr Montessori’s theory of “the absorbent mind” believed the child has an amazing ability of learning language with ease. Italian is introduced through verbal conversations in relation to the child’s daily life and music as part of our prepared environment.

Montessori Culture Activities

As is the case with all areas of the Montessori curriculum, Culture activities start off simple and get more complex as and when the child is ready. Children are introduced to fun and interactive activities so they can understand concepts such as countries; land, sea and air; and living and non-living beings.

Birthdays are used to demonstrate history and science whilst encouraging children to communicate with others in the class and gain a better understanding of how the earth is connected to them growing a year older.

Some Montessori Cultural Activities include:

  • Sandpaper Globes
  • Physical Objects Such As Stones and Soil
  • Land and Water Forms
  • Life Cycle Puzzles
  • Continent Puzzles

Montessori materials are designed to encourage your child’s learning and interest through sensory activities which will pique their curiosity about their environment.

Sports Program

Physical development is a vital part for the child’s holistic development, encouraging the child to move with freedom and purpose meets the needs for these experiences.

With a focus on gross motor skills, hand and leg eye coordination to basic ball handling skills in a non-competitive and fun approach children participate weekly in our Montessori football program.

Why Are Montessori Culture Activities Important?

Learning about the wider world and creating an environment in which children become curious about their place in it is a really important Montessori principle.

Cultural sessions give children the opportunity and skills they need to make new discoveries and become interested in our world. Montessori classrooms at Beacon House are designed to be responsive to your child’s absorbent mind and developmental curiosity, inspiring a sense of awe about cultures, living beings and how the world works.

This openness to learning and interest in finding out more is an important skill that children can take with them throughout their time at school and after.
